Apple launched its first tablets with OLED displays, and it certainly brings a huge upgrade in terms of display quality. However, some early adopters are reporting issues with the panel. Multiple posts on Reddit reveal a strange grainy issue.
Speculations are this might be an issue with a misalignment of the two parts of what Apple calls “tandem OLED display”. Some users suggested it might be the so-called mura effect that is present on all OLED panels, including smartphones but is visible on the iPad because of the relatively lower 264 ppi on the 11″ iPad Pro and 13″ iPad Pro.
There is a high chance that this is the same issue that plagued some Galaxy S24 Ultra units earlier this year. Samsung essentially tried to say it is a feature, not a bug, but eventually issued a fix. We’ll be monitoring how Apple approaches this and we’ll make sure to carefully check if our review unit behaves the same way.
